The European University Viadrina was founded in 1991 by the state of Brandenburg in order to fulfill special tasks for Brandenburg and for the Federal Republic of Germany in terms of educational policy as a reform university, in terms of foreign policy in German-Polish relations, and culturally with a view to Europe. The Viadrina is a “specialist” for borders and border areas, for intercultural competence in a culturally diverse society, for interdisciplinarity in a world that needs more than just one perspective. Since its reestablishment in 1991, the Viadrina has consistently followed its concept of bringing together young people from all parts of the world. This has proven successful and Viadrina has grown into a lively and much respected member of the circle of German and European universities. Chair of Comparative Politics
